Walled Garden

Goal
To create an inspiring and contemplative, traditional, walled garden, set into the nature of the Northwest on the shore of Lake Washington

Challenge
For a traditional garden of quality and meaning, built with a lasting presence, its design has to take into account the scale of the site and nature around it, while respecting the garden design history from which it is being designed from and taking its place within.

Solution
In studying walled English gardens, Vita Sackville West's Sissinghurst Gardens became the architectural inspiration for the spaces of this garden. The great Northwest landscape architect, Robert Chittock, designed the planting layouts.
